- Wet Lab: 24-hour access to Ophthalmology wet lab with operating microscope; animal and human eye tissue available.
- Surgical Simulator: 24-hour access to Eyesi, a virtual reality intraocular surgical simulator, at VA New Orleans and VA Biloxi.
- Digital Curriculum: Online access to the Basic Clinical and Science Course (BCSC)
- Education/Book Fund: One-time stipend, determined by the Chair, for first-year (PGY-1) ophthalmology residents to use for Department-approved e-books, print textbooks, or related course material.
- OKAPS/Board Review Fund: Stipend, determined by the Chair, for second- (PGY-3) and third-year (PGY-4) ophthalmology residents to use for Department-approved OKAPS or Board review courses and curriculum.
- Presentation Fund: Some travel and registration expenses may be reimbursed, with prior Chair approval, for residents presenting a paper or poster at national meetings.
- Local Meetings: Residents attend the annual New Orleans Eye Academy meeting at no cost.
- National Meetings: All third-year (PGY-4) ophthalmology residents may attend the American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting. Travel expenses will be deferred with a stipend to be determined by the Chair.
- Parking: Garage parking or covered parking is included at all sites.
- Housing: Housing is provided for residents rotating at VA Alexandria, VA Biloxi, and the Rapides Eye Clinic in Alexandria, LA.
- Pagers, white coats, and up to 3 indirect fundoscopy lenses are provided at the beginning of residency.
