Ophthalmology Director’s Message

Ze Zhang, MD

The distinctive character of the city of New Orleans gives Tulane’s ophthalmology residents ample opportunities to see and treat conditions rarely encountered in an urban setting in comprehensive ophthalmology and subspecialties. Our affiliations with Tulane Medical Center, University Medical Center, Rapides Regional Medical Center, and the Veterans Affairs facilities in New Orleans, Alexandria, LA and Biloxi, MS provide a broad range of clinical experience, large surgical volume, varied practice settings, and a diverse patient population. Our philosophy is to train residents who will provide the highest quality of care for their patients during residency and beyond.

Our faculty hold in common a passion for teaching and mentoring and are invested and committed to see you succeed in your future goals. Along with academic and clinical training, our residents benefit from opportunities to undertake basic and clinical research in ophthalmology. Many residents present their research at national meetings and publish papers as first authors here at Tulane.

Our program is small enough to allow residents to exceed experience expectations in a supportive and collaborative learning environment. Our faculty is experienced enough to have “seen it all” and enthusiastically share their knowledge and experience. Our setting is unique enough that our city’s vibrant, resilient spirit has been observed by the world.

We invite you to come take a look at Tulane Ophthalmology, where graduates are not only stellar clinicians and surgeons, but also leaders in ophthalmology.

I hope to meet you soon.

Sincerely,

Ze Zhang, MD
Residency Program Director
