The University allows residents at least five days of educational leave per academic year to attend academic meetings or other department-approved reasons. PGY-1 residents additionally receive two extra days of educational leave to account for taking their USMLE Step 3 exam.
Medical insurance is provided free for all residents. Coverage for spouses and dependents is available for an additional cost to the resident via payroll deduction. Dental and Vision insurance is available for a small premium. Life and disability insurance are provided at no charge to residents.
A parental leave policy allows a new parent time off to be with his or her infant. This time represents vacation and sick leave. As a Tulane employee you also receive a discount on child care at Bright Horizons at Tulane University.
Free parking is provided at all clinical sites.

First-year residents receive 15 days of paid vacation while on their psychiatry rotation and an additional 5 days of paid vacation while on their internal medicine rotation. PGY-2 residents and above are given 20 vacation days. Vacation is taken with departmental approval.
