Resident Contract

Educational Leave

Residents receive at least five days of educational leave per academic year to attend academic meetings or other department-approved activities. PGY-1 residents are granted an additional two days of educational leave to accommodate taking the USMLE Step 3/Comlex Level 3 exam.

Insurance

Medical insurance is provided at no cost to all residents. Coverage for spouses and dependents is available for an additional cost via payroll deduction. Dental and vision insurance are offered for a small premium. Life and disability insurance are provided at no charge.

Parental Leave/Day Care

Our parental leave policy allows new parents time off to be with their infant, using a combination of vacation and sick leave. As a Tulane employee, you also receive discounted child care at Bright Horizons at Tulane University.

Parking

Parking is free at University Medical Center, East Jefferson General Hospital, and the VA. At Tulane’s downtown campus, parking is available in paid street lots and garages.

  • PGY 1 – $60,241
  • PGY 2 – $62,222
  • PGY 3 – $64,290
  • PGY 4 – $66,975
  • PGY 5 – $69,979

Vacations

PGY-1 residents receive 15 days of paid vacation during psychiatry rotations and an additional 5 days during their internal medicine rotation. PGY-2 residents and above receive 20 days of paid vacation each year. All vacation requests require departmental approval.
