The Tulane Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, through the Division of Addiction Medicine, offers comprehensive addiction treatment services and is home to a prestigious, ACGME-accredited Addiction Medicine Fellowship. Access to Tulane addiction medicine services is through self-referral, referral from Tulane and community-based professionals or referral from facilities or structured programs involved in the treatment of addiction. Patients can be seen in our outpatient clinic in Metairie or they can be seen in consultation at LCMC hospitals or in partnered residential and outpatient programs.
The Addiction Medicine Fellowship provides exceptional training in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery of addiction and substance use disorders. Fellows gain expertise in managing addictions to nicotine, alcohol, prescription medications, and illicit drugs, as well as co-morbid behavioral addictions such as gambling and compulsive overeating.
Through clinical rotations at regional facilities, fellows develop advanced skills in inpatient, residential, and outpatient care while participating in evidence-based didactics, Psychiatry Grand Rounds, and leadership training. Graduates are prepared to advance evidence-based clinical care, pursue academic leadership roles, and obtain certification by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in Addiction Medicine.
The division of addiction medicine is supported by the expert and helpful staff of the department of psychiatry that includes the program coordinator position held by Mr. Christian Kelly. Our dedicated staff assist with recruitment and identification of fellowship candidates and provides support for those candidates accepting a position in our fellowship with the requirements of credentialing and licensure.
The division is committed to improving lives through innovative care, education, and research in the field of addiction medicine.
Our goal is to bring the treatment of addiction into the mainstream of healthcare.
