Application Requirements
A complete application to the Tulane Psychiatry Residency Program must include:
ERAS application
Dean’s letter (MSPE)
Three letters of recommendation from faculty
At least one from Psychiatry (two preferred)
Ideally, from preceptors you have worked with directly
Personal statement
Official medical school transcript and MSPE
USMLE Step 1 or COMLEX Level 1 score released in ERAS
USMLE Step 2 CK or COMLEX Level 2 CE (recommended for interview; required before final Match ranking)
We recommend submitting your ERAS application by the initial release date (September 25). While some interview invitations may be sent before all materials are received, most will be extended once your file is complete. All applications must be submitted through ERAS by mid-November.
Interviews
Interviews are held on Fridays from mid-October through the end of January, typically from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm.
Pre-Interview Social: On the Thursday evening before your interview, you’re invited to join current residents for an informal Zoom Social Hour—a great chance to get to know our program culture.
Interview Day: Your virtual interview day begins with an introduction from our chief residents, followed by a brief virtual tour of several training sites, including our inpatient hospitals and outpatient clinics. At 11:00 am, you’ll join residents for a casual coffee talk, then attend our weekly Grand Rounds at noon. The afternoon includes one-on-one interviews with faculty and the Program Director.
A detailed itinerary will be provided upon invitation.
Couples Match
We welcome applicants participating in the Couples Match. Please include your partner’s name and the program to which they are applying in your ERAS application.
International Medical Graduates
Foreign applicants must hold a J-1 visa sponsored through ECFMG. We are not able to sponsor H-1 visas at this time.
Canadian applicants must complete the CSA before beginning residency if matched to our program.
We prefer applicants with at least one year of U.S. clinical experience.
Graduation from medical school should be within five years of applying.
Observerships and externships are not available.
Visiting Student Clerkships
Medical students interested in an audition acting internship at our program should apply through the AAMC Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS). AAMC VSAS Website. We are not able to accept applications outside of VSAS.
