LCME Accreditation ~ Timeline

Coordination of a complete review of the Tulane University School of Medicine’s medical education program requires contributions from faculty, students, residents and administrators throughout the school. Below is a general overview of the timeline for this process:

Phase 1: Planning
(August – September 2017)

  • Self-Study Task Force & Sub-Committees Established
  • Independent Student Analysis (ISA) Team Established
  • Data Collection Instrument Distributed To Content Experts
  • School Of Medicine Community Engaged In Accreditation Process
  • Sept. 28, 2017 – Dr. Barbara Barzansky of the LCME Secretariat will visit with the chairs of Tulane's Self-Study Sub-Committees and present a town hall for the Tulane School of Medicine community.

Phase 2: Data Collection
(September 2017 – February 2018)

  • Data Collection Instrument (DCI) Compiled
  • January - Independent Student Analysis Conducted
  • Self-Study Sub-Committee Analyze Completed DCI, ISA, And AAMC Medical School Graduation Questionnaire And Create Self-Study Reports
  • Self-Study Sub-Committees Correct Exposed Deficiencies

Phase 3: Reporting
(February – July 2018)

  • February - Independent Student Analysis Completed
  • March 30, 2018 - Self-Study Sub-Committee Final Reports Complete
  • April/May - Self-Study Task Force Synthesizes And Summarizes The Work Of The Self-Study Sub-Committees
  • June 1, 2018 - Self-Study Task Force Completes Final Self-Study Summary Report
  • Editing Of Documents Begins
  • July 1, 2018 – Draft Survey Package Submitted To Mock Visitors

Phase 4: Survey Package & Site Visit
(August 2018 – January 2019)

  • Updates To Data Collection Instrument
  • Final Document Preparation
  • October 7 – 9, 2018 - Mock Site Visit
  • October 22, 2018 - All Final Materials Sent To LCME
  • Site Visit Preparation
  • November – First Set Of Bundled Updates To LCME
  • December – Second Set Of Bundled Updates To LCME
  • January 13-16, 2019 - LCME Site Visit
