The Tulane University School of Medicine, Section of Cardiology's Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship is a three-year program that trains fellows in the practice of clinical cardiology and to teach the knowledge, skills, clinical judgment, attitudes, and values that are essential to the practice of cardiology. Tulane cardiology fellows rotate at the Tulane Medical Center, the Southeast Louisiana Veteran’s Healthcare System, the University Medical Center of New Orleans, and at our Cardiology clinic in Metairie, Louisiana. Clinical rotations include cardiac catheterization, non-invasive imaging, electrophysiology, cardiology consults, CCU, and congestive heart failure. We strongly encourage fellows to participate in basic or clinical cardiovascular research. Fellows receive training and supervised experience in the evaluation and management of a wide variety of acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions. They will become proficient in all aspects of cardiovascular disease including chronic coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, acute myocardial infarction and other acute ischemic syndromes, lipid disorders, hypertension, cardiomyopathy, valvular heart disease, pulmonary heart disease, peripheral vascular disease, infections and inflammatory heart disease, and adult congenital heart disease.
The Office of Graduate Medical Education (GME) is responsible for ensuring that all residents and fellows at Tulane University School of Medicine are provided an accredited, educational experience of the highest quality. This three-year Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship program complies with all ACGME requirements, in addition to following the guidelines and recommendations of the American College of Cardiology (COCATS).
At the end of the training period, Fellows will be equipped with the knowledge, skills and abilities to meet the requirements for certification in cardiovascular diseases, as determined by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. These include experience and training in ambulatory medicine, inpatient experience, and special clinical experiences and research. The Fellowship program offers considerable flexibility, and may be tailored to fit individual needs.
