LCME Accreditation

In June 2019, Tulane University School of Medicine received full accreditation of its medical education program for the maximum cycle of eight years from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). The LCME is the official accrediting body of medical education programs leading to the MD degree in the United States and Canada. The School completed and submitted an extensive self-study to the LCME in October 2018, and hosted an accreditation site visit team in January 2019.

Faculty, students, staff, and others involved in the delivery and administration of the medical education program worked tirelessly throughout the self-study process, which provided an excellent opportunity to review all aspects of the School for quality assurance and continuous improvement. The School has benefited significantly from the camaraderie and enthusiasm that everyone contributed to improving the learning environment, the medical education program, and student support systems.

The LCME has asked for reports on several areas over the coming year, and the School’s Continuous Quality Improvement Committee will monitor and review ongoing compliance with each of the LCME’s 93 standards for continued attention to improve.

The next full survey visit is scheduled for the 2026-27 academic year.
