Addiction Medicine Fellowship

The Tulane Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences offers a one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship in Addiction Medicine, providing comprehensive training in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery of individuals with substance use disorders and behavioral addictions. Open to physicians board-certified or eligible in various specialties, the program includes clinical work at facilities like the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Healthcare System and East Jefferson General Hospital. Fellows gain experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings, participate in didactics and Psychiatry Grand Rounds, and develop leadership skills to prepare for certification by the American Board of Preventive Medicine and future roles in clinical and academic leadership.

Postdoctoral Research Fellowship

The Research Fellowship at Tulane’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is a two-year program aimed at postdocs pursuing tenure-track research careers. Fellows gain research expertise, develop a strong publication record, and collaborate with faculty on key projects. The program emphasizes robust mentor-trainee relationships, proficiency in research methods and statistics, and writing skills for manuscripts and grant applications. Tailored training plans can include clinical supervision for state licensure. Fellows engage in core didactic activities, original data collection, and seminars, with a focus on stress, trauma, neurobiology, and innovative interventions.

Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship

The Tulane University School of Medicine's Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship offers a comprehensive program in Forensic Neuropsychiatry, providing fellows with diverse clinical experiences across multiple settings, including East Louisiana State Mental Health System, Orleans Justice Center, New Orleans Criminal Court, and the Forensic Aftercare Clinic. Fellows work alongside one of the largest forensic psychiatry faculties in the country, gaining expertise in civil, criminal, and juvenile cases. The program includes rotations in competency restoration, risk assessments, and custody evaluations, with opportunities for fellows to lead interdisciplinary teams, conduct forensic evaluations, and testify in court. The fellowship also offers a dedicated child track, focusing on juvenile justice and custody issues. With a robust didactic series, weekly seminars, and supervision from experienced faculty, the fellowship prepares participants to excel in forensic psychiatry, culminating in board exam readiness.

Forensic Psychology Fellowship

The Tulane Fellowship in Forensic Psychology (TFIFP) at Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System is offered through the Forensic Neuropsychiatry division of the Tulane Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The goal of the psychology fellowship is to enhance and broaden the fellow’s forensic assessment skills and to prepare for forensic board certification. Forensic psychology fellows will conduct a wide range of forensic evaluations, including competency to stand trial evaluations and violence risk assessment of adults at an inpatient forensic hospital (Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System - ELMHS). TFIFP Fellows will also have the opportunity to receive mentorship and supervision from the only board-certified forensic psychologist in Louisiana and work in an academically-centered private practice setting.  Private practice cases involve a wide range of forensic referrals throughout the Gulf Coast, including referrals for criminal and civil evaluations from courts and attorneys.  Forensic outpatient referrals typically include criminal responsibility evaluations, jail-based competency evaluations, violence risk assessments, immigration evaluations, fitness for duty, and mitigation and resentencing evaluations (state and federal), along with civil evaluations focused on trauma-informed evaluations involving personal injury/tort cases, discrimination/psychological injury, workers’ compensation/disability cases, and evaluations for interdiction/guardianship. Each week, a full day of training is devoted to forensic didactics, including Landmark Case Seminar, Research Seminar, and Expert Witness/Legal Seminar. Fellows also participate in an all-day Mock Trial conducted jointly with Tulane Law students and faculty and have access to a host of other forensic and psychiatric conferences at Tulane throughout the training year.

Child Psychiatry Fellowship

Tulane's Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) Fellowship provides comprehensive training in both the basic and clinical sciences of infant, child, and adolescent psychiatry. Fellows gain experience in diverse treatment settings, including hospitals, community clinics, and school-based practices, with a focus on psychotherapy and evidence-based treatments under close supervision. The program benefits from internationally recognized faculty in infant mental health, offering fellows unique opportunities to work with very young children. Fridays are dedicated to academic activities, including interdisciplinary didactics, grand rounds, and supervision, covering topics like psychopharmacology, psychopathology, neurobiology, ethics, and forensic psychiatry. Fellows are also provided with structured time for vacation and professional development.

Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship

After completing the clinical psychology internship, qualified applicants may have the opportunity to participate in a one-year postdoctoral fellowship, contingent upon funding. This fellowship typically focuses on Infant Mental Health and Forensic concentrations, with past fellows also placed in various child and adult settings, including Tulane Hospital and community programs. The postdoctoral fellowship offers advanced, individualized training that includes teaching, consultation, and clinical service delivery. Fellows support faculty in supervising graduate students and psychology interns while receiving weekly supervision from a full-time Tulane clinical psychology faculty member to help fulfill licensure requirements.
