Program Director:
Darryl Duncan, MHS, PA(ASCP)CM

Meet the new Program Director of the Pathologists’ Assistant Program at Tulane University School of Medicine.

A Louisiana native, Darryl brings a deep understanding of the critical role that high-quality medical education and patient care play in the region. Before returning to his home state, he spent five years working in Texas hospitals as a Pathologists’ Assistant and clinical preceptor. He then served for four years as the Educational Coordinator for the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences' Pathologists’ Assistant Program.

During his time at the University of Toledo, Darryl worked both clinically and academically, playing an instrumental role in guiding the program through NAACLS reaccreditation. He also taught several key courses, contributing significantly to the curriculum and student success.

Darryl is a graduate of the Pathologists’ Assistant Program at West Virginia University School of Medicine. He holds dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Biological Sciences from Southeastern Louisiana University and in Medical Laboratory Science from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. He maintains active certifications as both a Pathologists’ Assistant and a Medical Laboratory Scientist.

Charles Collins, M.D.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Dr. Charles Collins brings decades of experience and a strong commitment to advancing medical education and patient care across the Gulf Coast. With nearly three decades of experience as a board-licensed pathologist, Dr. Collins served as a Staff Pathologist at Singing River Hospital and Ocean Springs Hospital in Mississippi, where he also held the role of Chairman of the Department of Pathology at Singing River Health System.

Dr. Collins earned his Doctor of Medicine from Tulane University School of Medicine, where he completed his pathology residency and served as Chief Resident in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and completed post-baccalaureate studies in biology at Tulane University.

Today, Dr. Collins is dedicated to training the next generation of pathologists’ assistants. His extensive clinical and academic background, combined with a passion for teaching, makes him an invaluable part of the Pathologists’ Assistant program.
