Program Director’s Welcome Message

Dr. Ryan Craig

As the Program Director, I’m thrilled to welcome you to the Tulane Pathology Residency homepage. For over 150 years, Tulane’s Pathology Department has been a leader in providing excellent patient care, and we are excited about the possibility of you joining this proud tradition. Our mission is to develop outstanding pathologists through a comprehensive blend of clinical and laboratory experiences, guided by dedicated faculty who are committed to your education and career goals, whether in academia or community practice.

While many of our residents choose to continue their fellowship training here at Tulane others have pursued prestigious fellowships and built successful careers across the country. At Tulane, you’ll have numerous opportunities to engage in clinical medicine, research, teaching, and community service throughout your residency.

Our residents benefit from a diverse and well-rounded training experience, with rotations at multiple hospitals, East Jefferson General Hospital, University Medical Center of New Orleans, Children’s Hospital of New Orleans, Ochsner Health Systems, Lakeside Hospital, West Jefferson Medical Center and Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office, that offer a wide variety of cases and a robust training volume. We provide a traditional AP/CP program with the option to further specialize in one of our three fellowship areas: Hematopathology, Cytopathology, and Dermatopathology. Our diverse resident body quickly becomes an integral part of the Tulane team, contributing to a rich and collaborative learning environment.

Living in New Orleans adds an exciting dimension to your residency experience. Despite the summer heat and humidity, the city is alive with outdoor festivals, art exhibits, renowned restaurants, and professional sports, offering a vibrant lifestyle. Earlier this year, Tulane’s hospital transitioned from downtown New Orleans to the neighboring suburb of Metairie. Although the move brought many changes, our residency program has adapted smoothly, and we’re eager to share our progress with you.

I encourage you to explore our website and reach out with any questions you may have. I’m proud to lead a team of exceptional faculty, dedicated program coordinators, skilled laboratory staff, and enthusiastic residents who make this role so rewarding. We hope you will consider becoming a part of our dynamic team.

Sincerely,

Ryan Craig Signature
