Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Residency Welcome

Welcome! We are honored to have you visit this website that describes the Residency Program of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine. Our residency program is a vibrant part of the Department where residents assume key roles in patient care, education and research backed by solid faculty guidance and support. For any potential resident wishing to join us, we offer extensive curriculums in anatomic and clinical pathology. Our subspecialty training covers all major disciplines of pathology. Our Molecular Pathology program operates a state-of-art facility for Covid-19 testing and oncology testing. The Department also offers three fellowship programs in cytopathology, hematopathology, and dermatopathology, which accept applicants graduated from resident programs of ours and others.

While residents receive a major part of the training through the auspices of Tulane Medical Center located in downtown New Orleans, and its sister hospital, Tulane Lakeside Hospital in suburban New Orleans, they also rotate through several other hospitals in the LCMC Health system, which includes the University Medical Center at downtown New Orleans and Children’s Hospital of New Orleans. In these settings, our teaching faculty is committed to provide numerous opportunities for individual training through an expansive range of pathology subspecialty. The Department is also staffed with a large number of research faculty, who run several NIH-funded research programs. We also offer three master level education programs including a Pathology Assistant program, the first program of its kind in the southern part of the country. Residents can expose themselves to a variety of research and education opportunities during their training in addition to their clinical experience. Our goal is to prepare our trainees for the challenges of professional growth throughout their career in clinical services, academic research and/or education.

Residents are accepted annually. Our graduates regularly succeed in obtaining quality fellowships nationwide. I sincerely invite you to further explore this website for more information on our program on the Department, so you can gain more insight into the strengths of our program and department. It will be also helpful to check out additional information on the city of New Orleans, which has such a unique cultural heritage that has inspired generations of people through its history.

Please feel free to contact me, or the Director of the Program, if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
