The Department of Pathology offers a comprehensive training program in all aspects of pathology, with the primary goal of training residents for a career in an academic or community practice setting. Residents can choose programs in Anatomic Pathology (AP) alone or combined Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) training.
Certification in AP alone requires three full years of training, which includes at least 24 months of formal training in Anatomic Pathology, and either an additional 12 months of continued formal training in Anatomic Pathology or 12 months of flexible training in a specialty facet of Anatomic Pathology.
Certification in combined AP/CP requires four full years of training, which includes at least 18 months of formal training in anatomic pathology and 18 months in clinical pathology, and either an additional 12 months of continued formal training in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology, or 12 months of flexible training in a specialty facet of either Anatomic or Clinical Pathology.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to prepare physicians to undertake and fulfill the several roles of a pathologist in either an academic or community setting. It is intended that our trainees will be committed to the interests and benefit of patients who require their services, will have a full understanding of the modern specialty, and will be equipped to continue to grow and mature in their professional knowledge and competence.
