Meghan Howell, MD

Dr. Meghan Howell is a complex care pediatrician with an academic focus on how prenatal and early life exposures influence a child's health trajectory. As a board-certified general pediatrician, she is committed to the study and implementation of non-pharmacological, non-invasive treatment modalities within the NICU that both stabilize an infant's physiology but also support a reduction in caregiver stress. Her areas of interests include infants born with neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS), infants born extremely preterm (<28 weeks) and infants with ongoing complex medical needs including congenital cardiac anomalies. After completing her pediatric residency and chief resident year at Tulane, she joined the faculty in 2015. In 2017, she opened and now directs the NICU Graduate Clinic where she cares for medically complex children and their families after they are discharged. She was selected as a Tulane Physician-Scientist Pipeline Scholar in 2018, which supports her growing research and academic endeavors. In 2020 with the support of the Department of Pediatrics, she opened Perinatal Exposure And Child Health (PEACH) Lab to facilitate continued scholarly collaboration and growth. Her favorite part of research is being able to serve as a mentor and leader to her amazing team, and she is dedicated to seeing a growth in minority and female researchers. She is a wife and mother of three, enjoys spending time at home with her family and two dogs, and loves all things related to food!
