East Jefferson General Hospital/Lakeside Hospitals
For over 50 years, East Jefferson General Hospital has been deeply rooted in Metairie. Treating our community like family is the only way we know. We’ve been sharing the love with our community since our opening on Valentine’s Day in 1971 through our commitment to one-of-a-kind care for everybody, from head to toe. Frequently recognized with national accolades, we’re proud to be East Jefferson Parish’s go-to hospital for health and wellness.
Lakeside Hospital is easy to find, conveniently located just off I-10 at the Causeway Parkway exit. We serve patients from across Jefferson Parish and beyond, who receive care in a range of specialties including obstetrics/gynecology, orthopedics, inpatient rehabilitation, radiology, and general surgery.
These facilities are the location of the Tulane Addiction Consult Service. The consultation team responds to requests for addiction consultations from the primary care and specialty physicians providing hospital care to their patients. The addiction consult team then assists with care for addiction while hospitalized and in the process of accessing continuous care following discharge. Dr. Lee Michals is the faculty for the consultation service.

Hancock County Family Treatment Center
Hancock County family treatment court is a unique opportunity to provide addiction medicine care to parents whose custody of their children is threatened by the addiction of those parents, who are then the participants in the family treatment court. The goal of the court is to safely reunite families, and the strategies are primarily effective treatment for addiction and the influence of the court to achieve compliance and participation. This is not a drug court in the sense that the participants have committed no crime. Rather the safety of their children is threatened by the pathological use of substances on the part of the participants. The location of the family treatment court is Bay St. Louis Ms. Participation is a combination of in person patient visits and participation in the court processes as well as virtual multidisciplinary staffing and virtual patient care. This is a weekly activity during one rotation of the academic year.
Collaborative Care Clinic
The collaborative care clinic is an effort to Co-locate addiction medicine ambulatory and consultation care with the physicians of the multidisciplinary ambulatory care clinic located at Tulane Medical Center. The goal is to provide concurrent care to those patients seen in the OB/GYN clinic as well as patients of the internal medicine and other specialty physicians. This is a well-staffed clinic environment with nursing availability instead of support for scheduling and medical assistance. This collaborative opportunity occurs weekly on an afternoon of each week.
Continuity Clinic
The continuity clinic is an opportunity to establish ongoing relationships with patients that continue for the entire year of training. The clinic is housed in the Tulane Behavioral Health Clinic in Metairie. Fellows assume the patient load of graduating trainees and follow those patients for the entire year, as well as any new patients that come into the fellows practice. This longitudinal effort is conducted with supervision that supports and encourages independent practice and provides feedback on each patient encounter. Each fellow has 1/2-day clinic on the same day of the week at the same time for the academic year. The goal is to acquire skills necessary to the longitudinal care of addiction.
