Our top priority is to prepare all of our residents to be able to pursue any career path they choose after graduation. The training at Tulane University shares the same overall philosophy as the Sciences of Psychiatry and Behavioral Department. We are solidly committed to providing a balanced program of didactics and patient care. Our program emphasizes the biologic, therapy, and social/cultural factors in the pursuit of optimal patient care. Residents are encouraged to explore multiple approaches to mental illness and its treatment.
As a trainee in Tulane’s psychiatric program, you will have colleagues in the adult, child & adolescent psychiatry, addiction, medicine and neurology sections. The Department also has several combined program residents and faculty which broadens the educational experience for everyone. The sub-specialty tracks available at Tulane include Triple-Board (psychiatry-child/adolescent psychiatry-pediatrics), Internal Medicine-Psychiatry, an Academic Clinician Educator Track, and a dedicated Research Path allowing protected research time. We also offer fellowships in child & adolescent forensic psychiatry, and a VA Chief Resident in Quality and Patient Safety position. The training sites in New Orleans and the surrounding area are truly unique and will expose you to a variety of clinical experiences that are not available anywhere else.
