Current TUSOM Pathway Program Initiatives
Med Student for a Day
Med Student For A Day is an opportunity for students interested in medicine to get hands on experience and speak with current Tulane School of Medicine (TUSOM) students and faculty about what it means to be in medical school and the journey to get there. Students participate in medical simulation activities and patient case team-based discussions. Students also have the opportunity to hear from Tulane faculty members and current students about the application process, financial aid, wellness resources, and what a day in the life of a Tulane medical student looks like.
IMPRESS
Coordinated through the Department of Surgery, IMPRESS is a five week course where students with underrepresented backgrounds in medicine have a chance to receive mentorship and tips centered around a career in medicine. Participants will have exposure to several medical specialties and advanced medical technologies.
NOLA Health Leaders Project
Inspired by the Bronx Community Health Leaders program, the New Orleans Health Leaders Project aims to support underrepresented undergraduate students in the medical school application journey by creating a peer support group that facilitates networking, provides guidance and mentorship, engages in community service, and helps develop the leadership skills critical to becoming a physician.
PIPE Scholar Program
The Tulane Urology PIPE Scholar Program is a two month program which provides first-generation students from an underrepresented background in medicine opportunities to participate in ongoing laboratory and clinical research projects; an introduction to methods of research; hands-on laboratory training; familiarization with the essential aspects of scientific writing; and guidance for fostering personal and professional development; career navigation; and demystifying the application steps of admission to a medical school, be it Tulane University School of Medicine or elsewhere.
