The Tulane Dermatology Program serves patients across the Greater New Orleans region, providing exposure to a wide range of dermatologic conditions and patient populations. Tulane University has been a committed partner to our community for over 100 years, and Tulane Dermatology residents are a vital part of that community.
- University Medical Center-New Orleans (UMC) clinics- UMC is a training hospital for over 1,000 residents every year, and the location of our resident-lead clinics and continuity clinic. Residents also provide inpatient consultative services and participate in burn-unit care. Surgery clinics are held 4-5 times per month and cutaneous t-cell lymphoma clinic is held once per month.
- Tulane Medical Center clinics- The dermatology faculty hold general dermatology and specialty clinics at the Tulane University Hospital and Clinic in downtown New Orleans. Specialty clinics held here are the Cutaneous T-cell Lymphoma, Mohs Surgery, and Resident Cosmetic Clinics. Residents provide inpatient consultative services and participate in dermatopathology slide review.
- Southeast Louisiana Veterans Hospital- Located in the downtown medical district. Residents participate in team-based care to veterans in the outpatient dermatology clinic and the inpatient consultative services. Residents participate in weekly surgery clinics.
- Children’s Hospital New Orleans- Located in Uptown, New Orleans. Children’s hospital pediatric dermatology clinics are lead by Pediatric Dermatology faculty and include a Vascular Anomalies clinic.
- Tulane Doctors Clinic- Covington- The Tulane Doctors clinic is a satellite clinic location on the Northshore of Lake Pontchartrain. Residents participate in outpatient clinics during their Tulane clinical rotations.
- Ochsner Medical Center- Located in Jefferson, New Orleans. At Ochsner dermatology clinics, Tulane residents participate in outpatient clinics, including Mohs surgery, and rotate on the inpatient consultative service.
- We believe that graduated responsibility fosters independence and confidence in medical and procedural dermatology.
- At UMC and the VA-New Orleans outpatient dermatology clinics, residents are responsible for seeing patients and providing treatment.
- Faculty is always on-site to provide supervision and assistance.
- Didactics are held on Fridays for 5-8 hours per session.
- Didactic sessions include chapter reviews, faculty lectures, kodachromes, and hands-on workshops.
- Special topics include: Dermoscopy series, Cosmetic dermatology series, Ethics and Professionalism
- Dermatopathology slide review and quizzes occur weekly.
- Departmental quizzes are given for each ABD Core Domain.

- JAMA Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery journal clubs- Monthly

- Tulane Resident Continuity clinics occur on Friday mornings every month at UMC.
- Residents are encouraged to schedule their own patients into their continuity clinics.
- Continuity clinic groups are maintained over 3 years of residency.
Tulane Resident Cosmetic Clinic
- Tulane residents offer cosmetic services at Tulane Medical Center on Tuesday afternoons
- Dermal fillers, neurotoxins, chemical peels and sclerotherapy are performed by residents under the supervision of faculty.

- 1st years provide 12 weeks of inpatient call coverage at Tulane Medical Center
- 2nd years provide 8 weeks of inpatient call coverage at University Medical Center
- 3rd years provide 4 weeks of inpatient call coverage at University Medical Center
- Additional call coverage is provided at Ochsner Medical Center and Children’s Hospital New Orleans when on-rotation.
- Residents are required to participate in two research projects over three years
- In-depth literature review on a clinical topic of interest
- Peterkin project- IRB-approved research study
