The Tulane University School of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is committed to the principles of diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice.
We acknowledge that racism and sexism exist in the medical profession, and we acknowledge the resultant significant barriers and burdens placed on underrepresented minorities in medicine. We have committed ourselves to doing the work of examining and addressing the effects of racism and sexism within our department. As part of this work, the Committee for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion was established in 2019 to celebrate diversity, create an equitable learning and working environment, and to foster the academic advancement of underrepresented minorities in medicine.
There is no place for discrimination of any kind in our residency program and in our department. We strive to create an anti-racist environment where every person can thrive, and we support all efforts to create institutional and systemic change to this end.

The Tulane Obstetrics & Gynecology Program has been developed by our own residents. That is to say that decisions regarding the program overall, specific rotations, and applicant rank order list are done with resident involvement as equal partners. Thus, we match well-rounded individuals who not only want to obtain outstanding clinical experience and training, but individuals who are team members and want to make a difference. Our residents make a difference in education and service to our patients. You can obtain good residency training in many programs. However, the satisfaction of delivering healthcare to the underserved of New Orleans with the same skill offered by the best medical facilities in the world makes our program unique among the others. People need us in New Orleans and we enjoy caring for them.
We believe in fostering women's health. We believe that all women deserve the best in healthcare.
General Obstetrics and Gynecology is taught in nearly all the rotations during the four years of residency. The Obstetrics and Gynecology rotation may either be one month of combined Obstetrics & Gynecology or an entire month devoted to either Obstetrics or Gynecology. The house officer is responsible for the coordination of care for all of the patients on the service, which includes obstetrics, gynecology, reproductive endocrine and infertility, and gynecology-urology patients. The level of responsibility increases with resident year with the overall goal to allow the resident to develop autonomy in patient care.
We train our residents to be responsible in all aspects of their career… and we do this with a system that augments autonomy and independent decision-making. Tulane is about generating academic leaders in Obstetrics & Gynecology as well as outstanding practitioners of the specialty. In our program you have the choice upon his or her graduation. Research prowess, educational excellence, clinical distinction, and development of leadership skills are our promise.
