The official Latin motto for Tulane University is Non sebi, sed suis - translated into English as "not for oneself, but for one's own." That sense of deep commitment to our community and its vibrancy is embedded not only by the University as a whole, but passes into each and every department and training program. At Tulane, we value the role of the individual in enriching the life of our city and it's population. We recognize the opportunities to grow and celebrate the successes - a deep respect for individuals as unique human beings, but how they each enhance our city is central to our mission.
We practice clinical medicine through a public health lens.
Throughout our history and partnership with Tulane's Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, principles of the intersection of medicine and public health is foundational to our role as clinicians. We hold deep respect for the role of early childcare, parenting & caregiving support, high-quality education, access to nutritious foods, and a safe environment as pivotal to the health of our children. Through our dozens of community partners, as well as our strong working relationship with the Louisiana Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, we train future pediatric leaders in how to leverage these critical resources to drive real change for our children and families. We have carefully designed curricular components, supported by our LA AAP, to provide a unique opportunity for trainees to work directly with state advocacy leaders, including legislative advocacy. We believe that we are best when we unite our skills with those whose mission resonates with ours.
