Our state-of-the-art Simulation Center allows us to be in the forefront of procedural training here at Tulane; why should your first attempt at a lumbar puncture be on a live person, when the technology exists to let you get realistic practice first on someone who doesn't actually feel pain? You will get initial training at your intern orientation, as well as periodic Thursday/Friday Schools devoted to working through cases in a clinical-simulation environment - how better to learn to run a code than to run through it in team-based fashion, in a protected environment first?Read More
The simulations are primarily geared towards residents, but also involve nursing staff, nursing students, and medical students. The simulations are intended to reinforce medical knowledge, cognitive skill, and teamwork skills needed in a medical emergency. After every simulation, a debriefing is led by a Chief Resident and a PICU Attending.
