The Tulane Simulation Center has been an American College of Surgeons Accredited Education Institute since 2011. One of the goals of the accreditation program is to build a community of institutions interested in furthering surgical education. The aim of the accreditation program is to identify, develop and promote standards for quality education.
The Tulane Simulation Center is honored to join a group of only 21 centers listed as a Laerdal Center of Educational Excellence. The program was established to recognize Centers that have exhibited consistent excellence in educational philosophy and programs for the purpose of helping save lives. To identify Centers to which others can be referred as examples of the ways in which excellent educational programs are designed and implemented in the field of helping save lives. To establish a network of Centers that can provide mutual support for 'breaking new ground' in the field of educational programs for helping save lives.
The Tulane Simulation Center is an official testing center for the Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery certification. FES is a comprehensive web-based education module that includes a hands-on skills training component and assessment tool designed to teach the physiology, fundamental knowledge, and technical skills required in basic endoscopic surgery. FES was designed for surgical residents, fellows and practicing physicians to learn and practice endoscopic skills to have the opportunity to definitely measure and document those skills. Prior registration is required and can be completed at the SAGES FES website.

The Tulane Sim Center is one of two American Heart Association Regional Training Centers in the Greater New Orleans area. AHA authorized certification classes in BLS, ACLS and PALS are available in both traditional classroom format and the online convenience of HeartCode. The Tulane School of Medicine has been an accredited provider of ATLS courses since 1980 and offers over 20 ATLS Provider, Refresher and Instructor courses per year. ATLS courses are approved CME programs developed by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma and are taught using an educational format that is conducive to training physicians in the concepts, skills and techniques required in initial patient resuscitation.
