The Division of Abdominal Transplant Surgery at Tulane University School of Medicine’s Department of Surgery combines complex surgical care, multidisciplinary collaboration, and academic medicine to advance the treatment of patients with end-stage organ disease.

Led by Anil Paramesh, MD, MBA, the division’s faculty provide expertise in abdominal organ transplantation while contributing to the educational and scholarly missions of the School of Medicine. Tulane transplant surgeons work closely with specialists across disciplines to care for patients throughout the transplant process, from evaluation and operative management through long-term follow-up.

The division also provides a strong educational environment for medical students and general surgery residents. Trainees gain exposure to the technical demands, clinical decision-making, and team-based approach required in transplant surgery, while learning from faculty experienced in managing medically and surgically complex patients. This experience complements Tulane’s broad-based surgical training and offers insight into transplantation as both a clinical specialty and an academic career.

Tulane’s transplant surgeons continue to contribute to the growth and advancement of transplantation throughout the region. The division’s clinical work reflects the complexity of modern transplant surgery and provides trainees with exposure to multidisciplinary decision-making, advanced operative care, and longitudinal patient management.

Faculty within the division are committed to mentorship, education, clinical inquiry, and the continued evolution of transplant surgery. For medical students, residents, and prospective faculty, the division offers an academic environment grounded in collaboration, intellectual curiosity, and progressive surgical practice.
