Chiefs Welcome
On behalf of our dedicated team of clinicians, educators, and researchers, I am pleased to welcome you to the Tulane Gastroenterology and Hepatology Section, a proud part of the Tulane School of Medicine’s Deming Department of Medicine. We are honored to serve our community by providing exceptional care, advancing medical knowledge, and training the next generation of leaders in gastroenterology and hepatology.
Our clinical faculty are committed to delivering expert, compassionate care at some of the region's most respected healthcare institutions, including University Medical Center New Orleans, East Jefferson General Hospital, and the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System. Through these partnerships, we are able to offer comprehensive treatment across a wide range of gastroenterological and hepatological conditions, ensuring the highest standards of patient care.
The section is also home to an ACGME-accredited fellowship program, which accepts three fellows each year. Our fellowship provides hands-on experience with a diverse array of complex conditions, including liver transplantation. Fellows benefit from close mentorship by our distinguished faculty, as well as from the opportunity to engage in a wealth of clinical and research experiences.
In addition to our clinical expertise, our faculty members are deeply involved in groundbreaking research and clinical trials. From liver disease to gastrointestinal cancers, we are at the forefront of developing innovative treatments and improving patient outcomes. Our research spans multiple areas of gastroenterology and hepatology, with a focus on translating scientific discoveries into clinical practice.
As we reflect on the section’s long history of excellence in patient care, education, and research, we are proud of our many accomplishments and the lasting impact we have made in our field. Yet, we are equally excited about the future, with plans for continued growth, advancement, and innovation in all aspects of our work.

Academic Programs
The Gastroenterology Fellowship Training Program at Tulane is a three year ACGME-approved subspecialty program leading to competence in the independent practice of general gastroenterology. The curriculum follows guidelines for GI training set down by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Trainees will rotate among three main sites, all of which serve patients from New Orleans, south Louisiana and beyond.
