Resident Engagement & Wellness

The Tulane Med-Peds Social and Wellness Committee is dedicated to furthering resident wellness by creating opportunities for residents to engage with one another. The committee plans events throughout the year aimed at bringing residents together outside of work to take advantage of everything New Orleans has to offer.

Annual Wellness Activities

  1. Intern Welcome Seafood Boil (+vegetarian options!) at Dr. DeBord's house
  2. Switch Party (Prior to each Med-Peds switch)
  3. Holiday Party
  4. Med-Peds Retreat
  5. Med-Peds Graduation Ceremony
  6. Impromptu Happy Hours

A strong residency program requires input and investment from all stakeholders – above all, residents. Resident engagement in the process of continuous program improvement is a top priority for Tulane Med-Peds. All residents are invited to participate in Program Evaluation Committee meetings, which are scheduled throughout the year and structured to identify strengths and opportunities and to develop specific and measurable action plans. At an institutional level, we have had numerous residents serve on the Tulane Resident and Fellow Congress as well as the Graduate Medical Education Committee

Recent resident-driven program improvements include:

  1. New board prep resources, including the Rosh Med-Peds QBanks, PEAC ambulatory curriculum, and MedStudy Pediatrics QBank
  2. New resident committee on curriculum and scholarship
  3. New tri-annual Med-Peds Academic Half-Day conferences
  4. Increased opportunities for Med-Peds procedural skills training in the Sim center
  5. Expanded pediatric ambulatory experiences and structured curriculum
  6. New and improved journal club format
  7. Elimination of 28 hour call while on IM rotations
  8. Initiatives in EDI through IM and Pediatrics programs
