Basic Application Information

Tulane School of Medicine uses VSLO to accept applications and does not accept materials outside of VSLO.  Please do not send "cold call" documents.  Please do not email unsolicited application materials or letters of interest to Allys Dierker.

You must apply through VSLO, VSLO sends host institutions daily updates about applications, and your VSLO application is sufficient indication of your interest in a visiting rotation at Tulane.  The volume of email from visiting students prevents responses to unsolicited materials and letters of interest.

VSLO automatic email templates are often blocked by non .edu email addresses such as gmail.  The most reliable email address to use for VSLO is a .edu email.

Use this link to view the 2025-2026 Visiting Student Block Calendar.  Please note that all visiting rotations at Tulane must be scheduled according to this block schedule.  No exceptions or adjustments to start/end dates can be made.

After Tulane's VSLO catalog opens, students will need to submit the following documents through VSLO to apply:

  • CV/Resume
  • Step Score(s) report (a passing Step 1 score is required)
  • Photograph
  • Statement of intent (for ANES applicants only)
  • Letter(s) of recommendation (2 for SURG applicants; no other specialties require LORs)

Students will need to submit additional documents/information to VSLO after they are offered a visiting rotation.

  • Please follow VSLO directions closely.
  • After you upload the required post-decision documents to VSLO, please make sure you select the "submit requirements" button in the "Track Your Applications" section of VSLO.  If you do not click "submit requirements," your conditional offer cannot be reviewed and finalized, and you will not be eligible to rotate at Tulane.
  • You are not eligible to rotate at Tulane unless you receive an email with the subject line: "VSAS: Confirm Conditional Offer."  If you do not receive a confirmation email (or an email asking you to resubmit particular documents), the most likely reason is because you did not select the "submit requirements" button.
