Each year we have 6 categorical PGY-1 openings, as well as additional openings in our combined Internal Medicine/Psychiatry and Pediatrics/Psychiatry/Child-Psychiatry (Triple Board) programs.

The following materials are required for a completed application to Tulane Psychiatry Residency Program:
- Application through ERAS
- Dean's letter
- Three letters of recommendation from faculty (Only one letter must be from Psychiatry, however we prefer two if available)
- Personal statement
- Official medical school transcript and MSPE
- Step 1 or COMLEX 1 completed with score released in ERAS
- Step 2CK / COMLEX 2CE and Step 2CS / COMLEX 2PE are not required for interview, however are required prior to final ranking for the Match
We recommend that you complete and submit your ERAS application by the initial release date (September 15). We will occasionally send out invitations before all components are in the file, however the bulk of interview invites will be extended after release of the MSPE on October 1st. All applications must be received through ERAS by November 15.
Interviews
Interviews are conducted on Fridays from mid-October through the end of January.
- Pre-Interview: All Tulane interviews are on Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm. Applicants are invited to join current residents for an informal dinner on Thursday night. Our dinners are reserved for applicants only. We will be sampling one of our great New Orleans restaurants so come hungry!
- What to Expect on the Interview Day: Your interview day will begin with a light breakfast and an introduction to the program from a chief resident. From there you will then receive a brief tour at a few of our facilities including our inpatient hospitals and our outpatient clinics. At noon, you will attend our weekly Grand Rounds followed by lunch with our residents. You will then have one-on-one interviews with faculty and the Program Director. If you are invited to interview, a more detailed itinerary will be provided.
Couples Match
We accept applicants participating in the couples match. Please provide the name of your match mate and the residency program to which he/she is applying in your ERAS application.
International Medical Graduates
- Applications are prioritized with a minimum USMLE score of 220 - however, we do review the entire application and do not base our decision solely upon the USMLE scores.
- Foreign applicants must have J1 visas that are sponsored through ECFMG.
- We do not accept H visas at this time.
- Canadian applicants must complete their CSA before beginning residency if matched in our program
- We prefer one year of US clinical experience.
- Year of graduation should be within 5 years of applying.
- Observerships and externships are not available at this time.

Medical students interested in an audition acting internship at our program should apply through the AAMC Visiting Student Application Service.
