Faculty and Theoretical Orientations

The internship offers a variety of training experiences with faculty who possess diverse theoretical approaches. The faculty has an interest in and respect for various approaches. The primary theoretical approaches to assessment, case formulation and intervention include behavioral approaches, cognitive-behavioral approaches, psychodynamic approaches, mindfulness and acceptance-based approaches, and family system theories and interventions. We are committed to training interns in those practices that are evidenced-based. The Metropolitan Human Services District Children and Youth Services Clinic and the Tulane Parenting Education Program provide a range of evidence-based treatments. At the Tulane Parenting Education Program, one evidenced-based model (among others) that is used is Child-Parent Psychotherapy; this is a model for treating young children and caregivers exposed to trauma and interpersonal violence.
