Course Description

The ATLS course is for physicians. Nurses, paramedics, and other allied health professionals may audit the course. Contact the Simulation Center at simcenter@tulane.edu for additional information.

The course is designed to orient physicians to the initial assessment and management of the trauma victim through a series of lectures and practical skills stations. As the Continuing Medical Education accrediting organization the American College of Surgeons designates this educational offering as meeting criteria for sixteen (16) Category I Credit Hours for the Provider Course and five (5) Credit Hours for the Refresher Course.

ATLS Provider Course
The ATLS Provider Course is a two-day continuing medical education program designed for doctors.

ATLS Refresher Course
The ATLS Refresher Course is a half-day continuing medical education program designed for doctors who currently hold a valid and current ATLS card. Your ATLS card may not be expired by more than 6 months and a copy must be submitted with the registration form.
 

Course Completion Requirements
Successful completion of the course is based on the doctor's overall performance throughout the entire course. Recognition of successful course completion is-contingent on the following requirements:
 

  • Attendance at the entire course (all lectures, skill stations and testing stations)
  • Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in accordance with course requirements
  • Post written examination of 70% minimum
