MD Curriculum

Tulane University School of Medicine’s MD curriculum is a comprehensive, four-year program designed to build strong clinical and scientific foundations while preparing students for residency and beyond. The curriculum begins with Phase I, focusing on normal structure and function through systems-based modules that integrate anatomy, physiology, histology, and foundational sciences. In Phase II, students explore disease mechanisms and therapeutic approaches across organ systems, incorporating clinical skills, pathology, pharmacology, and case-based learning. The third year emphasizes hands-on clinical experience through core clerkships in hospital and outpatient settings. In the final year, students refine their clinical skills with advanced electives, acting internships, and required rotations in emergency medicine, radiology, and community health. Tulane also offers combined degree programs such as MD/MPH, MD/MBA, and MD/PhD for students seeking additional training in public health, business, or research.
