Katherine S. Cox, MD, FASA

Dr. Katherine Cox serves as the Residency Program Director for the Tulane University School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology, becoming the first woman to lead the department's residency training program. Since joining Tulane in 2016, she has been dedicated to educating and mentoring the next generation of anesthesiologists while fostering a collaborative, supportive learning environment.

Prior to joining Tulane, Dr. Cox served as Assistant Program Director for the Anesthesiology Residency Program at LSU Shreveport Medical Center. She earned her undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, graduating Magna Cum Laude, before receiving her Doctor of Medicine from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. She then completed her residency in anesthesiology at LSU Shreveport.

In addition to her leadership in graduate medical education, Dr. Cox plays an active role in the department's clinical operations as a member of the "Doctor of the Day" work group, helping oversee the daily management and efficiency of the operating rooms. She is board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and holds Basic Transesophageal Echocardiography Certification through the National Board of Echocardiography.

Dr. Cox is passionate about resident education, patient safety, and advancing excellence in perioperative care. Her leadership, clinical expertise, and commitment to mentorship continue to strengthen Tulane's nationally recognized anesthesiology residency program and prepare future physicians for successful careers in anesthesiology.
