ACLP Program Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How can I submit letters of recommendations?
    Your letters of recommendation may be submitted via email, fax, snail mail or Interfolio.
  2. What is the average MCAT and GPA for applicants?
    The average for last year’s applicants were: MCAT 511 and GPA 3.63.
  3. Do I have to be wait listed in order to apply to ACLP?
    Yes, the main requirement to apply to ACLP is you must be waitlisted to a US accredited medical or dental school.
  4. Do I have to be a US citizen in order to apply?
    Yes, you must be a US citizen to apply to our program.
  5. Do we accept DACA students?
    No, we do not accept DACA students unless they have already obtained citizenship.
  6. Do you accept applicants that are wait listed at a Caribbean school?
    No, all applicants must be wait listed at a US accredited medical or dental school.
  7. Do I have to submit all material for my application at the same time?
    No, you may submit parts at a time, if needed.  Most have their letters and transcripts sent separate.  As soon as we receive an item for your application, we start a file and add to it as we receive the information.
  8. Can I submit more than three letters of recommendation?
    Yes, you just need to submit at least three.
  9. Can I submit AAMCOS instead of AMCAS?
    Yes
  10. Do you accept Canadian students?
    No, you must be a US citizen to apply to ACLP
  11. Can letters of recommendation be from previous ACLP students?
    Yes, a previous ACLP student can submit a letter for  your application.
  12. What courses will I take as an ACLP student?
    You will take Gross and Developmental Anatomy,Medical Histology and Leadership in  Healthcare
  13. When do classes start and end?
    Classes start in early August and should be finished by the third week in April.  This can change yearly based on the class schedule.
  14. Will I qualify for student/continuing education loans for this program?
    No, this program is a certificate program and since you are not enrolled as a typical medical student you will not qualify for a typical student loan.  Most students take out personal loans or gifts from their family.
  15. Will I be a traditional Tulane medical student?
    No, you will be a student through the Department of Structural & Cellular Biology.  You will take classes with the first year medical students but you will not participate in activities for the first year medical students (example: white coat ceremony, orientations, Dean’s hour, etc).
  16. Is ACLP rolling admissions?
    No, ACLP is not a rolling admissions process.  There is a committee of 5-6 that will meet and review your application and make their decision at that time.
  17. When did the program start?
    The first ACLP class was in 1996
  18. How many students have participated in the program?
    There have been 357 students to complete the program since 1996
  19. How many students have attended Tulane from the ACLP program?
    As of 2019 there have been 281 students attend Tulane.
  20. Will I receive a degree?
    No, you will receive a certificate of completion.
  21. Will you accept a waitlist to a DO school?
    Yes, as long as it is an accredited US school.
