Biography

Dr. Sides received his PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Tulane SOM in 2010 with concentration of Epstein Barr virus in Pulmonary Fibrosis working within the Lung Biology Group. He completed Postdoctoral Fellowship also at Tulane with concentration of the Epstein Barr Virus and cancer therapeutics. He received his MD from Tulane SOM in 2015 followed by Internal Medicine residency at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston Texas and received the Dame Cicely Saunders Award for compassionate care of his patients. He continued at UTMB for Medical Oncology Fellowship and was selected Outstanding Fellow of the Year in his final year. He is board certified in Internal Medicine through ABIM and Board Eligible for Medical Oncology. He joins the Section to specialize in Thoracic Oncology taking a longitudinal approach including a smoking cessation initiative, a lung cancer screening program, direct patient care, and clinical trials. Clinical research includes advancement of healthcare delivery and improvement of outcomes with new therapeutics. Basic science research includes identification of markers for adverse outcomes to immunotherapy, pathogenesis in lung cancers in non-smokers, change to the tumor microenvironment by viral infection and continued therapies specific to virus driven cancers.
