About: Victor’s experience in public health and working in the underserved populations at the Texas-Mexico border allowed him to see the effects of health disparities in vulnerable communities.

What I like about Tulane/New Orleans: Victor was drawn to Tulane because of the underserved populations they serve and the community of residents and attendings that offer phenomenal support in reaching his goals. Upon moving to New Orleans, Victor was astounded by the large and growing Spanish-speaking immigrant community in New Orleans.

Professional Interests: Victor has a strong interest in primary care and preventing costly chronic disease in communities that cannot afford it. Moreover, the lack of access and added hurdles these populations have to navigate to obtain proper mental and psychiatric care drove Victor to combined training. He noticed how mental and physical health were so intertwined and are important to address in primary care settings.
