Biography

Hometown: Charleston, SC

About: When he is not working, Charles can be found parading, cooking, fishing, kayaking, baking, and exploring all that southern Louisiana has to offer.

What I like about Tulane/New Orleans: Charles was originally drawn to combined training in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry while observing the relationship between physical and mental health comorbidities among individuals with substance use disorders while a medical student in Philadelphia. While interviewing at Tulane, he was struck that the trainees he observed seemed not only to be growing into themselves as physicians, but also growing into the people they aspired to be. Since arriving, he has dived into the program and city headfirst and found his home here.

Professional Interests: Charles's interests lie in applying med/psych to substance use, CL psychiatry, outpatient combined med psych treatment for individuals with SMI, and caring for those with SMI across the disease course and the lifespan, as well as in medical education, research, quality improvement, and advancing equity in medicine.
