Biography
Samuel M. Alexander, MD, FACOG is an experienced board-certified Obstetrician Gynecologist who has been in practice for 30 years. Dr. Alexander received his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Louisiana State University in 1982. He received a Master of Science degree from Louisiana State University in Microbiology, Immunology, and Parasitology in 1984. Prior to starting medical school, Dr. Alexander was on the forefront of medical research looking for a treatment for AIDS. Dr. Alexander earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in 1989. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology from Louisiana State University School of Medicine/Charity Hospital Affiliated system. He received a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1995 and has maintained annual certificates.
Dr. Alexander was in private practice for 26 years prior to becoming full-time faculty at Tulane. He still maintains his practice in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Alexander's interest include minimally invasive surgeries such as laparoscopic, hysteroscopic, and vaginal surgery such as Vaginal Natural Orifice Transluminence Endoscopic Surgery (VNOTES). Gynecologic topics such as pelvic pain, hormone replacement, interstitial cystitis, and endometriosis are a focus of his practice. Dr. Alexander also serves as an investigator in many studies.
