Biography
Dr. Maraganore's passion is helping patients to achieve healthy brain aging by preventing cognitive decline and dementia. His current research interests relate to 1) microbiota compositions and methods using the same to prevent cognitive decline and dementia; 2) promoting adherence to the Mediterranean diet in neurology clinical practices; 3) population health initiatives to prevent cognitive decline and dementia in persons at higher genetic risk for Alzheimer’s disease; and 4) successful cognitive aging over age 90.
His clinical practice is in brain health (primary prevention of cognitive decline and dementia in at-risk persons) and the evaluation and management of memory disorders (including mild cognitive impairment and dementia due to Alzheimer’s disease).
Dr. Maraganore is the past BJ and Eve Wilder Professor of Alzheimer's Disease at the University of Florida. Before the University of Florida, he was the Chair of Neurology at NorthShore University Health System, and Chair of the Division of Movement Disorders at the Mayo Clinic.
A Chicago native, Dr. Maraganore received his Bachelor of Science and Medical Degree at Northwestern University. He then completed his internship and residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He was then the Honorary Clinical and Research Fellow to Professor C. David Marsden at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, England.
