Why I chose Tulane: The program offers great opportunities for exposure to a diverse population. We work at four different hospitals (Tulane, UMC, VA, & Children’s) therefore we experience caring for different patient cohorts and thus have exposure to a variety of Neurologic disorders. Tulane is a Comprehensive Stroke Center, so we get exquisite practice at directing care & managing Acute Strokes. We also have a Neurocritical Care unit which gives us the unique advantage of learning to care for neurologic complications at an ICU level. We work with different EMR systems which I also see as an advantage. We also work with different staff at each of the hospitals, which gives us variety in guidance & teaching as well. The city itself is small, so it’s quick to get to work, yet it’s also rich and dense. It has the typical urban feel with a southern hospitality and unique character that gives it flare. Most importantly, there is great camaraderie amongst the residents & our program leadership is extremely receptive to change and improvement. I consider myself lucky for doing what I find fascinating; having the opportunity of training at Tulane is just the icing on the cake.
