Biography
Dr. Jacquelyn Seymour Turner is a Professor of Surgery at Tulane University School of Medicine. She is double boarded in general surgery through the American Board of Surgery and in colon and rectal surgery through the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. She was the Clerkship Director for many years at Morehouse School of medicine while practicing colon and rectal surgery at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia before joining the Tulane Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology faculty in January 2022. Currently, Dr. Turner serves as the Vice Chair of Surgical Education for the Department of Surgery at Tulane.
Dr. Turner has a strong background in surgical education. She severed on several national education centered committees as a past resident member the colorectal Resident Review Committee (RRC) of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), a current writer for the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) exams, and past member of the UME to GME Review Committee (UGRC) (Coalition for Physician Accountability (CoPA) subcommittee). At an institutional level, she has organized faculty development activities related to education, developed several curricula for both residents and medical students, and participated in program evaluation and accreditation processes.
Dr. Turner is also dedicated to improving the quality of care for patients suffering from colorectal diseases. She has been very active in promoting robotic and emerging technology within her colorectal practice as well as pushing for colorectal quality improvements and equity within healthcare.
