Biography

Dr. Bonnie Chow is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Abdominal Transplant Surgery at Tulane University School of Medicine. She sees patients at East Jefferson General Hospital and the Tulane Transplant Institute, as well as at the Manning Family Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Chow recently completed her Abdominal Transplant Surgery Fellowship at Stanford University and her General Surgery Residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin and affiliated hospitals. She earned her medical degree from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and is board certified in General Surgery.

Her clinical and research interests include pediatric transplantation, health equity among transplant patients, and physician well-being and professional development. Dr. Chow has been actively involved in peer support programs throughout her training and brings extensive experience in deceased donor procurements, particularly with normothermic machine perfusion and normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) for DCD donors—efforts that align with her commitment to expanding the donor pool for abdominal transplantation.

She is a member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons Community Engagement Committee, the Society of Pediatric Liver Transplantation, the Society of Asian Academic Surgeons, and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Her work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, and she has presented nationally and internationally.

Originally from the Midwest, Dr. Chow is excited to bring her expertise and energy to Tulane’s growing transplant program while embracing the unique culture of New Orleans. Outside the hospital, she enjoys playing tennis, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Dr. Chow also speaks conversational Cantonese.
