Biography

Dr. Joseph Obeid is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Tulane University School of Medicine. His expertise spans thoracic oncology, cardiac surgery, and translational cancer immunology.

Dr. Obeid completed his General Surgery residency at Stony Brook Medicine, followed by an NIH T32 Research Fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the University of Virginia, where his work focused on tumor immunology and biomarker development. He then completed his Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship at Temple University Hospital, where he served as Education Chief and contributed to the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.

A two-time national award recipient, Dr. Obeid was part of the winning team for the 2023 CTSNet Resident Video Competition and received the 2025 STS Coronary Conference Scholarship. His research and publications span topics including lung cancer, melanoma, immunotherapy, and surgical innovation. Fluent in English, French, and Arabic, Dr. Obeid is dedicated to advancing surgical education, fostering inclusivity in medicine, and improving patient outcomes through evidence-based care.
