David S. Franklin, PhD

Dr. Franklin received his Ph.D. in 1994 from Louisiana State University Medical Center (now LSUHSC). His research interests have involved cell cycle and signaling for the human cancer syndrome multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN), and the development of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). In recent years, Dr. Franklin has moved his primary focus from research to medical education. His current appointment is Professor of the Practice of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. 

Dr. Franklin is the course director for the first-year medical biochemistry course, and is program director for the one-year Master’s Program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Additionally, Dr. Franklin developed and administers two online summer distance learning courses in medical biochemistry – for either remediation (for current medical students) or as a prep-course (for new medical students with limited biochemistry background).  Dr. Franklin is also a founding member and on the executive board for the Association of Biochemistry Educators (https://www.abiochemed.org/, an organization dedicated to Biochemistry education at schools of medicine, dentistry and pharmacy. His primary interests in education are in creating advanced learning resources, active learning and advanced technology to deliver content, ensuring students have the best resources to succeed, and assisting students in preparation/remediation. Pictured above, Dr. David Franklin and Senior Program Coordinator Kelly Ragland.
