Biography
Dr. Deepa Bhatnagar joined the Section of General Internal Medicine in 2011. She is currently an Associate Professor for Clinical Medicine and Pediatrics and an academic hospitalist at the Tulane Medical Center and University Medical Center. Since July 2019, Dr. Bhatnagar is the Program Director of the Tulane University Internal Medicine Residency Program. She has previously served as an Associate Program Director for the IM Program and has chaired the Clinical Competency Committee for the residency. Her academic interests surround transitions – transitioning patients in and out of the hospital, preparing fourth year students for internship, and ensuring residents are ready for unsupervised practice.
A native to New Orleans, she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at Rice University in Kinesiology in Houston, Texas. She returned to New Orleans to pursue her medical degree from LSU School of Medicine. She completed a combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Research/Academic Interests:
Transitioning patients in and out of the hospital, preparing fourth year students for internship, and ensuring residents are ready for unsupervised practice including achieving clinical competence and engaging in career preparation.
