Dr. Fernando Sanchez is a Board-Certified Orthopaedic surgeon. He specializes in treating patients with osteoarthritis, particularly advanced knee arthritis and hip arthritis. Serving as Chief of Joint Replacement at Tulane, Dr. Sanchez specializes in adult reconstruction surgery. He performs Primary Hip Arthroplasty (Total Hip Replacement Surgery), Primary Knee Arthroplasty (Total Knee Replacement Surgery), as well as revision knee arthroplasty and revision hip arthroplasty. His patients come from throughout Louisiana, as well as from Mississippi, and Alabama. He treats many international patients, mainly from Central and South America. His practice also includes patients with a hip fracture, as well as many other conditions of the hip and knee. Dr. Sanchez studied in both North and South America, as he is a graduate of Instituto de Ciencias de la Salud CES Medical School. He completed internships at General Hospital of Medellin – Colombia and University of Alabama - Birmingham. Following this, he remained at UAB to complete orthopaedic residency training. He then completed an Adult Reconstruction fellowship at Anderson Orthopaedics Research Institute, in Alexandria, Virginia. Dr. Sanchez is currently a Tulane Department of Orthopaedic Professor and serves the department as Vice-Chairman. Since May of 2018, he’s held the title of the Bette and Jack Kenneth Wickstrom Professor of Orthopaedics.

Dr. Sanchez sees patients at Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine, Tulane-Lakeside Hospital, Sports Medicine Plus and the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System.
