Biography

Jonathan Owens, M.D. has returned home to Louisiana to join the faculty of the Tulane Department of Otolaryngology as an assistant professor.  Upon completion of his training, he established a private practice in Napa, California. He also worked in Boise, Idaho, and most recently in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where he served as president of the medical staff and chief of surgery. At the onset of the COVID crisis, he was appointed to lead the medical staff surgical pandemic response.  Dr. Owens is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology. He is also a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) and the American Rhinologic Society (ARS).

Dr. Owens has a general otolaryngology practice, with interests in sinus disease, voice disorders, sleep medicine, cochlear implantation, and thyroid/parathyroid disease.  As a general otolaryngologist and head and neck surgeon with over 15 years of experience, Dr. Owens provides care to patients with a myriad of disease processes in the ear, nose, and throat.  He is looking forward to partnering with other specialties as part of a multidisciplinary approach to collaborative care.  His research interests include outcomes in sinusitis and innate immunity of the upper airway.  Drawn to the opportunity to teach/mentor rising physicians, Dr. Owens will also serve as the Director of Medical Student Education in Otolaryngology hoping to foster interest in the field earlier in their medical school careers.

Dr. Owens has relocated to New Orleans with his wife, a pediatric hospitalist; his daughter, headed to Stanford University; and son who will enter high school and is excited to make memories with Dad cheering on the WhoDat Nation.

Dr. Owens will divide his clinic time between the Tulane Lakeside ENT Clinic & UMC addressing cases such as:

    • Sinusitis and nasal disorders
    • Voice and swallowing disorders
    • General otolaryngology
    • Hearing loss
    • Allergy
    • Otitis media, acute and chronic
    • Sleep apnea
    • Thryroid/parathyroid disease
