Biography

Hometown: Chicago, IL

About: Rachael's interests in med/psych began while working as a behavioral health counselor in Chicago, seeing the challenges providers faced in caring for medically and psychiatrically complex patients. At Tulane, she discovered a path to addressing this need through med/psych. In her spare time, Rachael enjoys cooking, reading, watching baseball (and all the other sports), and exploring the Garden District with her partner Christopher and their dog Calliope.

What I like about Tulane/New Orleans: As a medical student at Tulane, I felt consistently supported and encouraged by all, especially those within the med/psych department and I could not imagine leaving to continue my training anywhere else. New Orleans has made it possible for me to thrive both personally and professionally. There is no other city like New Orleans, an underserved and underprivileged community that still finds joy and celebration in life everyday.

Professional Interests: Rachael's interests include addressing the increased risk of mortality across the lifespan of patients with mental illness and working with marginalized communities. Rachael has particular interest in working with patients within the criminal legal system who struggle with increased rates of substance abuse, mental illness, infectious disease and medical comorbidity.
