Dr. Parada earned her medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Parada completed Fellowship training in Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Immunology at Boston University School of Medicine. She is certified in Mind-Body Medicine by the Center for Mind Body Medicine in Washington, DC. She joined Tulane School of Medicine in 2000.

She is the Medical Director for the Grace Anne Dorney Pulmonary and Cardiac Rehabilitation Center at Tulane Medical Center. She is the LSU Healthcare Effectiveness Asthma and COPD Population Health clinical lead and the Tulane Asthma and COPD Medical Director and Pulmonary Clinic Director at University Medical Center in New Orleans (UMCNO).  She is listed on Best Doctors, Top Physicians, Super Doctors, and Best in Medicine.

She has served on the Board of the Plains-Gulf Region American Lung Association and as a National Assembly member of the American Lung Association. She was recognized as Volunteer of the Year by ALA of Louisiana in 2012.  She has served on Committees of the American Thoracic Society and American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology.

Her main clinical interests are integrative asthma care, asthma disease management, bronchiectasis in asthma and Mind-Body medicine.

Awards & Recognitions

Dr. Nereida Alicia Parada has started a Pulmonary Service Line at the Federally Qualified St Thomas Community Heath Center. St Thomas is the first CHC to have Pulmonary  services available in the New Orleans area. With the presence of FeNO and lung function testing that includes lung volumes and DLCO on site, patients can now have state of the art assessment for pulmonary conditions when they are being evaluated by Dr Parada and Joseph DeFraites FNP at the 2000 Magazine location. In addition, FeNO machine at the other 5 CHC locations, are assisting in identifying patients that need to be seen for their asthma. Since starting there in March 2024, hundreds of patients have been cared for in their Medical Home with appropriate referrals when needed.
