Dr. Chaffin is a double board-certified plastic surgeon practicing at Tulane University. She received her MD degree from Wayne State University, where she also completed her General Surgery residency in 2006. She is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery. Then, she completed a two year Plastic Surgery fellowship at Tulane University School of Medicine in 2008, and is board-certified in plastic surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. She joined the Tulane University Plastic Surgery full-time faculty in 2008.  Dr. Chaffin's clinical interests include breast reconstruction after breast cancer, complex wound and burn care including wound reconstructive surgery, complex abdominal hernia reconstruction, cosmetic surgery, burn reconstructive surgery, and general reconstructive plastic surgery.

Dr. Abigail Chaffin is also a wound medicine expert. Dr. Chaffin is one of only a few doctors in the state of Louisiana who is a Certified Wound Care Specialist Physician. She is also a Fellow of the American Professional Wound Care Association, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Wound Medicine and Surgery. She is the Medical Director of the MedCentris Wound Healing Institute at Tulane. She has significant expertise in the surgical reconstruction of complex wounds such as decubitus ulcers, venous and other leg ulcers, and hidradenitis suppurativa.
