Biography

Amy Phou is a Medical Research Specialist at the Tulane Center for Airborne Infection and Transmission Science (TUCAiTS) and a PhD candidate in International Health and Sustainability at Tulane University’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. With over a decade of experience in microbiology, infectious disease research, and non-human primate studies, Amy brings a strong translational focus to her work in global health and infection control.

At TUCAiTS, Amy leads laboratory research efforts involving virus and bacterial cultivation, molecular assays, DNA/RNA isolation, and tissue processing. She also develops and implements new lab protocols, manages collaborative animal research projects, and ensures compliance with federal biosafety and occupational health regulations.

Amy previously served as Research Assistant 2 at both the Tulane and Oregon National Primate Research Centers, overseeing multidisciplinary teams and managing complex microbiological studies. Her technical expertise includes flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and advanced immunofluorescent staining. She has co-authored presentations on CSF1R blockade in prediabetic rhesus macaques at national immunology conferences.

Her research interests span infectious disease transmission, translational medicine, and global health systems. In addition to her research background, Amy brings clinical care experience from her time as a Certified Nursing Assistant in hospital and rehabilitation settings.
She holds a Master of Biomedical Sciences from Geisinger College of Health Sciences and a bachelor’s degree in microbiology and international studies from Oregon State University.
