Biography
Dr. Wei Chen’s research interests, funded by the NIH, include the mechanisms of bone formation, bone resorption, skeletal development, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and aging diseases. Since 2010 she has mentored 12 doctoral trainees and post-doctorate fellows, in addition to numerous undergraduates. She is author of 68 peer-reviewed publications and she and/or her students are the recipients of several awards from the International Association for Biological and Medical Research and American Society for Bone and Mineral Research for research presentations. Dr. Chen is a current Board Member of International Association for Biological and Medical Research.
Prior to joining UAB as Associate Professor, Dr. Chen was Associate Investigator in the Cytokine Biology Department at The Forsyth Institute, Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Boston, MA. She received her M.D. in 1983 at the Kunming Medical College in China and her postdoctoral research training in Cytokine Biology at the Forsyth Institute, Harvard School of Dental Medicine, in 2001.
