PROGRAM PURPOSE

To provide mentored research to an individual pursuing post-residency or postdoctoral training. A postdoctoral scholar is a trainee pursuing to carry out advanced studies supervised by the principal investigator/s utilizing knowledge of equipment, methodology, and current developments in the field of minimally invasive surgery. Postdoctoral Scholars are appointed for a limited period of time and may participate on the Department’s research projects. The scholar will engage in comprehensive research to help evolve Minimally Invasive Surgery.

The proposed research will consist of:

  • Benign and malignant esophageal diseases
  • Metabolic surgery and Bariatric Surgery procedures and outcomes
  • Robotic surgery
  • Research in surgical education and training
  • Evaluation of novel surgical devices and procedures

The focus of the research is to provide exposure and experience to the aforementioned research projects with the opportunity for independent investigation over a 1-year period. The fellow will also be responsible for collection of data for use in research studies related to minimally invasive surgery and will also be conducting research in surgical education and minimally invasive surgery.

The fellow is expected to fully participate in the surgical education laboratory teaching residents and medical students Minimally Invasive Surgery.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designs and conducts research experiments.
  • Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Documents and interprets results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.

ELIGIBILITY

This program is for any individual who is pursuing post-residency or postdoctoral training in the clinical medical sciences.

Applicants may be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or foreign national lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence. A one-year commitment to the program is required.


HOW TO APPLY

The Program currently offers one Fellowship position each year (July 1-June 30). The applications process opens on August 1st and closes on June 30. All applications must be submitted by June 30 of the year of the start of the fellowship.
